Ah, Health and Safety. There’s no getting away from it, especially as a facilities manager. But that’s a good thing, as who wouldn’t want to work in an environment that absolutely minimised the risk of injury or even death! Unless you work in the military or certain emergency services, the question of whether you’ll actually make it to the end of the working day is one that really shouldn’t have to be asked. That’s why Health and Safety is so important.

One of the key tools in providing a safe work environment, as well as meeting our legal obligations, is the risk assessment. Risk assessments allow us to identify hazards and anticipate potential issues, as well as take steps to mitigate the risks we identify. There is a 5-step process to completing a risk assessment recommended by the Health and Safety Executive, and it is this process that we will examine in this course.

About this course

By the end of the course, you will know exactly how to conduct an effective risk assessment, as well as how to read and understand existing assessments, how to control the risks that you identify and some of your legal obligations under health and safety law.
