A Deep-Dive into Maintenance Strategies

This course will consider what is meant by maintenance and the various maintenance strategies that can be adopted by the FM department to keep property and assets in the best condition.

You will look at the difference between Reactive and Preventative Maintenance and then the different sub-categories including Reactive Corrective, Reactive Emergency, Planned Preventative, Periodic Preventative and Condition-Based Maintenance.

You will also consider the cost-effectiveness of each method enabling you to make a decision as to the best strategy for your organisation.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Provide a definition of Maintenance

  • Identify the main aspects of the different maintenance strategies

  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the different maintenance strategies

  • Provide examples of when one strategy may be more relevant than another for your buildings and assets

  • Explain the cost-effectiveness of the different strategies

This course is aimed at people already working within Facilities Management operations, who want to consolidate their knowledge and understand the importance of introducing the most appropriate maintenance strategy for buildings and assets.

It’s great for aspiring managers with existing, practical FM skills who are looking to take the next step, or for people with experience in related industries who are looking to move into an FM role.

It’s also ideal for those who are studying for their IWFM qualifications, perhaps by distance learning, who would like some face-to-face tuition to support their studies.

Although this course is open for anyone to attend and is not assessed, the content has been developed in line with elements from the IWFM qualifications at Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 and includes content relevant to the following units:
